India bags two golds in Asian Youth boxing championship
11 Mar, 2010 [11:16 AM] | | With two golds and three silvers in their kitty, the Indian boxing team finished runners up in the Asian Youth Boxing Championship in Tehran Iran. While Vikas Krishnan (60kg) and Naveen Kumar (81kg) won gold medals, three others- Devendro (48kg), Venkat Giddi Nagarjun (57kg) and Sumit Sangwan (75kg) settled for silver.
Having got four bronze medals through their losing semifinalists earlier, the Indian team posted a healthy tally of 28 points to finish second behind Kazakhstan (34 points).
Devendro was the first to take the ring for India and was out-punched 0-5 by Masoud Rigi of Iran.
The disappointment continued when Nagarjun went down 2-10 to Yerkin Duisenbayev of Kazakhstan. But Vikas brought back the cheers in the Indian camp after defeating Phonwirat Patiyhangkho of Thailand 4-0.
Sumit lost to China's Yihhang Wen 0-4 but Naveen ensured that India ended the day on a high as he edged past Aolih Zhang of China 4-2.
The team will return to the country tomorrow.
