Five Indian boxers in Asian Youth Championship finals

Five out of nine Indian boxers in action went through to the finals of the Asian Youth Championships in Tehran, Iran.

In the light fly weight (48kg) division, Devendro Singh Laishram blanked Engelbert Moralye of Philippines 5-0.

Among other winners last night, Vikash Krishan (60kg) also out-punched Fei Heng of China 9-0, while Sumit Sangwan defeated (75kg) Sakkarih Choojit of Thailand 2-0.

In the light heavy weight (81kg), Navin Kumar scored a thrilling win over Begaliev Sardorbek of Uzbekistan. Both the boxers were tied at 2-2 after the three rounds and the Indian was declared winner on countback.

In the feather weight (57kg), Venkat Giddi Nagarjun beat Hursltan Pazylov of Kyrgyzstan 8-1.

However, it was a disappointment for four others who settled for bronze medals. Srinivas Surbetti (51kg) lost 0-3 to Jinyong Jiang of China, while Harpal Singh (64kg) was beaten 1-10 by Meirim Hursultanov of Kazakhstan.

Manoj Kumar (91kg) suffered a head injury against Askar Kupensheyev of Kazakhstan forcing the referee to stop the contest in the second round.

In the +91kg category, Rajat lost 3-13 to Farhad of Iran
