| | | Home Minister P Chidambaram is scheduled visit West Bengal on February 9 to chair a meeting of the state chief ministers of Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal to take stock of the security situation in the region.
The attack comes ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's conference with state Chief Ministers to discuss internal security in New Delhi on Sunday.
During the meeting, the PM and Home Minister P Chidambaram will discuss the increased infiltration attempts from across the border in J&K. There have been four infiltration bids in the last one month only.
Naxal attacks in the Red Corridor across West Bengal, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra will be the other top priorities.
Meanwhile, tight security arrangements have been made and police stations put on maximum alert in the naxal-hit districts in view of the 72-hour bandh across the five states- West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Orissa by the banned CPI (Maoist) beginning today to protest against 'Operation Green Hunt' to be launched by the Centre.
Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) US Dutt told a news agency in Patna that, ‘about 40 Maoist guerrillas blew up the UP and DOWN tracks late last night between Rajla and Narganjo railway halts near Kahba bridge, affecting the movement of several long-distance and local trains.’
