Buddha accepts Ranganath Misra commission’s recommendation

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya today accepted the recommendations of the Ranganath Misra Commission on reservations for social minorities. The West Bengal state government agreed on the quotas laid down in the recommendation that set out a 10 percent quota each for muslims, OBCs (other backward communities) and the economically backward communities.

However, the government has decided to exempt what it calls the ‘creamy layer’ from the parameters of the reservation. The creamy layer includes economically viable muslims and OBC members. Speaking at Writer’s Building today Bhattacharya said that a committee would be set up to filter and select the people eligible for reservations.
