Naxals release abducted teacher in exchange for 27 rebels
2010-03-09 [16:14:50 hrs]
Maoists on Monday released abducted teacher Ranjit Dulay, three days after picking him up from Sarulia village in Bankura District. Dulay was released in the presence of local reporters who first took him to Lalgarh police station. From there, Dulay was taken to Midnapore police line. Dulay has been released now and is on his way home.

Dulay’s family can now heave a sigh of relief after a harrowing three days when the Maoist rebels held him hostage.

On Sunday, the secretary of the People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA), Shidhu Sorenhad demanded the release of 43 rebels arrested by the joint forces. Thirty seven of them were nabbed from Kesia and six from Shaluka. Soren had further demanded that the appeal for the prisoners’ release would have to be made by Ranjit Dulay’s son, Golok.

In keeping with the demand, Goluk took a memorandum to Sarenga police station appealing for the release of the prisoners. Subsequently, 27 rebels were released from Kesik. Following the release, Ranjit Dulay was also set free.
