Court orders registration of FIR against Ramvilas Paswan
2009-06-18 [17:46:00 hrs]
A Hajipur court has ordered registration of an FIR against LJP chief Ramvilas Paswan for allegedly making 'provocative' comments against JD(U) rival Ramsunder Das, who defeated him in the Lok Sabha polls.

Acting Chief Judicial magistrate Prem Mishra yesterday issued the order after taking cognizance of a petition filed by a JD(U) minority cell leader Nayeem Akhtar charging Paswan with making provocative speech and remarks against Das at a workers meeting called by the LJP to find out reasons behind its debacle in the polls.

Former chief minister Das defeated Paswan by over 35,000 votes for Hajipur Lok Sabha seat.

The court order directs Hajipur Superintendent of Police to lodge an FIR against Paswan with town police station here under sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 510 (misconduct in public) and 500 (defamation) of the IPC.

When contacted, SP Parasnath said he was yet to receive a copy of the court's directive.

"We will work in keeping with the law," he added.
